Petrified Forest National Park and old Route 66

We had the opportunity to drive down old Route 66 and see some of the old hotel and diner signs. I plan on driving the entire route later. The kiddos favorite roadside statue was Pecos Bill riding the tornado.

Since I was little and saw pics of Petrified Forest I planned on making the trip and we made that happen today. The kiddos and I took a brief 1 mile hike through the park and the kids ooohed and ahhhed over the giant blocks of petrified wood. They learned the history of the park from a leathery old and slightly gnarly park ranger. He fit the bill for a western ranger, silver and turquoise jewelry included.

On our way out of the park we assisted some Japanese tourists take group photos and I may or may not have hit on one of the ladies in the group.

Also, a little Route 66 history... The Wigwam Hotel.
